Which window tint shade is the right choice for your car?
Selecting the best tint shade can be difficult. Here are some things to ask yourself:
- Would this tint be for the look & style of your car?
- Is it to look after children or animals from UV rays or heat?
- Do you want keep valuables out of sight?
From your responses to the questions our fully trained professionals are able to help you to pick the right shade. Here are the 3 main shades available:
Light tint – This is a subtle tint offering protection from UV rays but giving full visibility even at night.
Medium tint – This is the same as the factory provides for many cars, it offers protection from heat, UV rays & also adds some privacy.
Blackout tint – This tint is our most popular, it protects from UV rays, heat and provides complete privacy.
Which car windows can we tint?
We are often asked about this. To start with, let us describe the way tint is measured.
The percentage given for a tint defines the amount of light that is allowed through. Therefore a 20% tint permits 20% of light to pass through.
The legal limit on each of the driver’s & the front passenger’s window is 70%. The windscreen is 75%. Meaning the front windows must let 70-75% of the light through. The vast majority of vehicles made today have tinted windows that are almost at (or close to) the 70-75% limit. Even though to some this glass doesn’t seem to be tinted, in actual fact it is.
If you choose to have your front windows tinted your penalties range from (click this link for details):
- A ‘prohibition notice’ banning you using your vehicle on the road unless you strip the tint from your vehicle.
- A penalty notice and a court summons.
In addition, something else to think about is your car insurance. By unlawfully tinting the front windows of your car, you can invalidate your insurance.
It’s also against the law to an illegally install tint to a cars front windows, with heavy fines and penalties. Vision Tints is a trustworthy, respectable and reliable business that all clients rely on and as such we choose not to disobey the law. So we choose not to tint your front windows over the legal limit.
We always test with a tint meter to confirm your car’s windows are legal when fitting tint on front windows.
We will happily tint any rear windows as dark as you wish, as there is no legal limit on rear window tints.
Which of the available tints do you use?
Not all window tints was created equal! The types of window tint available are:
This tends to be the least expensive tint on the market, it bubbles, fades, and will likely go a blue or purple colour after a while. It is quite poor, and we don’t recommend it.
This tint is also cheap. It is regularly affected by the rear window heater lines, which cause it to bubble. It can also disturb radio reception. This is not first class, and, won’t last.
Carbon or Charcoal
Premium industry-standard window tint. It is what we usually use at Vision Tints, as it gives a great colour, longevity, does not get affected by heater lines and doesn’t affect the radio signals.
The finest tint available, offered as our premium service. It provides the best longevity/colour, isn’t affected by heater lines, will not affect radio reception and provides the most temperature/UV protection.
All that being said, not all window tint manufacturers offer the same, after many years of experience, we have chosen what we believe is the best brand available, and even better, it’s manufactured in the UK, which means that when you choose our services you are actually supporting two UK businesses.
